Nanao Knocks Out Lemon and Takes His Gear

Nanao Knocks Out Lemon and Takes His Gear is a reversal in which Lemon regains consciousness only to discover that the man he underestimated has taken his weapons and personal effects. The theft leaves him disoriented, separated from his equipment, and unsure where the suitcase has gone.

Background and Reversal

Lemon wakes with his head still fuzzy and watches buildings pass outside the train window. He touches his chin, recalls that he felt no pain when he was struck, and realizes he simply blacked out. His rueful recognition that he should not have underestimated the bespectacled Nanao marks the reversal: Lemon had been pursuing the situation with the confidence of an armed operative, but now he has to reconstruct what happened from the things missing from his own pockets.

What Nanao Took

When Lemon pats his side, his gun is gone. He scowls at the theft and identifies the person responsible as the glasses-wearing man. The missing weapon is not the only loss: when Lemon reaches for his phone to call Tangerine, he discovers that it too has been taken. He is especially upset that the Thomas charm dangling from the phone has disappeared with it. The small keepsake makes the loss more personal than a simple inventory of stolen gear, while the missing gun leaves him without an important tool.

The Suitcase and the Aftermath

Lemon recalls Nanao saying that he also worked for Minegishi. He puts that claim together with the suitcase’s path: Nanao had taken it from Tangerine and Lemon, and then someone else had taken it from Nanao. Lemon cannot tell where it is now, adding uncertainty about the assignment to the immediate consequences of his own theft.

He considers going to the rear of the train to check on Tangerine, but decides to remain where he is and try calling instead. With his phone gone, that plan fails before it begins. The episode therefore leaves Lemon awake but temporarily stripped of his means to act: he has lost his gun and phone, does not know the suitcase’s location, and has yet to establish what has happened to his partner.
